Small is the new big!
While moving towards a future where engineering is applied at the level of micro and beyond. The need for high precision sensors for control applications in the domain of micro and nanoengineering was paramounting. In the time of the pandemic, its relevance was on full display, especially in healthcare engineering applications. Therefore, the symposium of W.S.V. Simon Stevin in 2021 was themed ‘Sensing the Unseen’. In this symposium we took a look at microsystems and their applications in control systems. This symposium was a great collaboration with the research group “Microsystems” and “Control Systems Technology” of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
During this symposium Philips, Axxicon and Micronit were present giving us an opportunity to interact with pioneers of this research domain and working with renowned companies heavily invested in this field. At the end of the day, we all got a glimpse of what we, as a mechanical engineer, can encounter within this interesting field of research.
