Symposium 2023 – Engineering the sky – Simon stev-in the air – A Symposium of W.S.V. Simon Stevin

Symposium 2023 – Engineering the sky

Thanks to the state-of-the-art technology, unmanned devices can travel greater distances and remain there for longer periods through intelligent navigational systems and remote sensing. These capabilities are largely attributable to the work and technical know how of aerospace systems and engineering field overall.

The symposium this year is themed by aerospace with the focus on outer space. During the symposium several mechanical engineering related topics will be discussed, such as opto-mechanics, materials in space, robot arms for space stations and many more.

We hope to see you on the 30th of May as well to start your space journey!

Nancy Vermeulen is a commercial airline pilot-instructor, Master in theoretical physics and astronomy, was Commander of a Mars simulation in Utah and took part in the ESA astronaut selections of 2008. Bringing the universe closer to people and vice a versa, that is Nancy Vermeulen’s personal mission. In 2018 she founded the Space Training Academy where she prepares private astronauts and suborbital scientists for their first journey into space. In 2021 she published a book “Iedereen Ruimtevaarder” (everyone an astronaut) (Lannoo). Since the beginning of 2023 she is involved in the Einstein Telescope project as a stakeholder manager for Flanders.
